industry, we produce a wide range of steel products to meet
the demands of today's appliance applications. U. S. Steel's Vitrenamel® 1 Steel,
Vitrenamel® 2 Steel and
Flexnamel® Steel are designed to optimize the application of porcelain-enamel coatings.
We are also a premier supplier of Prepainted Sheet products for
critical applications such as high-gloss, smooth refrigerator
doors. Additionally, our ACRYZINC®
Coated Sheet, which is a galvanized sheet product with a clear
organic resin surface treatment, provides excellent corrosion resistance and good formability.
Our other surface finish capabilities include coined Seville 101 for post-paint and embossed Seville 101 for pre-paint.
U. S. Steel’s geographic footprint enables us to effectively and efficiently service appliance industry customers from Canada to Mexico. Steel for these applications is typically produced at the following facilities:
Mon Valley Works near Pittsburgh, Pa., which has been servicing the appliance industry for more than 50 years and is our company’s largest producer of appliance steels;
Fairfield Works in Fairfield, Ala.;
Fairless Plant outside Philadelphia, Pa.;
Midwest Plant in Portage, Ind.;
Gary Works in Gary, Ind.;
Great Lakes Works outside Detroit, Mich.;
Hamilton Works in Hamilton, Ontario; and
PRO-TEC Coating
Company, a joint venture with Japanese steelmaker Kobe Steel in Leipsic, Ohio. U. S. Steel is dedicated to continuous process and product improvements, and our facilities are
ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 certified.
U. S. Steel also has the logistics support to deliver the right product at the right time using barge, rail and truck carriers. In order to facilitate better communications with our customers and vendors, U. S. Steel developed a Web-based system called
SteelTrack®
to assist our customers with real-time business questions ranging from order status updates to test reports to product capabilities. SCM (Supply Chain Management) is another software tool developed to manage the supply chain from order entry to inventory management. Customers can use both of these tools in addition to their regular
